Construction work to phase 1 of the Project began in late July 2002. It comprised a new Sports Hall and Dance Studio with Changing Facilities, new Dining Hall, Main Entrance and Classroom block together with refurbishment of existing buildings to provide teaching and library accommodation. The overall programme of works which comprises additional classrooms was due to for by August 2003, when the whole school will be united on the Upper Site, at which time the Lower school will became available for alternative use.

A small piece of land was leased from an adjoining neighbour (on a 60 year lease) and used to enhance the outdoor Sports Facilities, an important addition in view of the school’s recently awarded status as a Specialist Sports College. A new car park was also formed on the site of the existing dining room and main entrance altered to ensure vehicular and pedestrian segregation.
